Lord of the Rings
By: Gold Deity

Lord of the Rings is based on the fantasy epic book, Fellowship of the Ring. The main character in the story is Frodo Baggins, a hobbit, who lives in a small town called Hobbiton. Hobbiton is located in a very small, little known country called The Shire. Frodo is a well-known hobbit because he is the heir to the large fortune of his uncle, Bilbo Baggins. But during Bilbo's eleventy first, or one hundred and eleventh, birthday, Bilbo is having a speech and then vanishes. Frodo rushes to find Gandalf in Bilbo's home. Gandalf is a wizard who has been a friend of the people of Hobbiton for years. He tells Frodo that Bilbo has gone, but has left Frodo a ring. Gandalf tells Frodo that the ring is very dangerous. This ring is the One Ring, the Great Ring of Power! The Ring is trying to get to its Master, Sauron, the Lord of the Ring. Frodo must take the Ring to Rivendell, the stronghold that is where the Elves live. Frodo does get there but soon discovers that his journey isn't over. Now he has to carry the Ring the fiery, flaming destruction of Mt. Doom, the only place where the Ring can be destroyed. Mt. Doom lies within the forsaken land of Mordor, where the throne of Sauron is located. Frodo is assigned 8 companions. Strider, the heir of Gondor, who's real name is Aragorn. Legolas, the Elf. Gimli, the Dwarf. Borimir, a warrior of Gondor. Samwise Gamgee, a hobbit, who is nicknamed Sam. Peregrin "Pippin" Took, a hobbit. Merriadoc "Merry" Brandybuck, another hobbit. And of course, Gandalf the Grey, the Wizard. These nine people become the Fellowship of the Ring! Thus begins the Lord of the Rings!!

The Lord of the Rings, personally, is one of my favorite movies of all time. It actually encouraged me to read the series. Now THAT is saying something!! The movie is somewhat hard to understand, but the book will clear things up. My favorite character is Legolas, because he can fire arrows so fast that it is unbelievable. Plus, he never misses!! Another interesting thing is the Balrog, a fiery demon from the darkness of Moria. Moria is a cave beneath the Misty Mountains. The Balrog is the giant flaming creature of death that claims Gandalf's life (supposedly *wink, wink*). He actually pulls Gandalf into a really deep pit of shadows, incase you're wondering.

If you're wondering about why Gandalf is title "Gandalf the Grey" then I guess I can tell you. Grey is a wizard rank. A wizard's weakest rank would be Black. That wizard would have a black beard and minimum powers. Then comes Brown and then Grey and then White. White is the strongest. One more cool thing is the little catch phrase thing at the beginning of the book:

Three Rings for the Elven Kings, in the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords, in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men, doomed to die,
One Ring for the Dark Lord, on his Dark Throne,
In the Land of Mordor, where the Shadows lie
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all... And in the Darkness, bind them,
In the Land of Mordor, where the Shadows lie.
And so ends my first movie review. Enjoy it, mortals, for it is rare when an Elf such as myself decides to write a review for such unworthy creatures!
