Killer Instinct Gold
"Welcome."
By: Zelda's Fox 38
This game was seriously one of the best fighting games I've ever played in my life! I loved the old arcadian feel with the cool moves and the pixilated blood! Okay, well, maybe not the pixilated blood, but this was a cool game.
Basically what happens is this: there were these two gargoylish dudes named Gargos and Eyedol who wanted to take over the human race. Eyedol was eliminated in a previous Killer Instinct tournament, as were his minons Cindel, Riptor, Fulgore, and Spinal. (For you older fans, Chief Thunder just went home after finding out what happened to his brother.) By destroying Eyedol, B. Orchid opened up a rip in time and sent everyone back in time. So technically, now the fighters are TJ Combo, Fulgore II (the second edition), Glacius, Jago, Kim Wu, Orchid, Sabrewulf (no, not the 1984 game Sabrewulf dude), a younger and alive Spinal (??), Tusk, Maya, and Gargos.
So, as with most fighting games, there isn't a lot of a plot. Oh, well. If you wanted a plot that was somewhat reasonable, go cry in the corner.
The game screens are also your average fighting game material; a power bar, a special bar, your name, and the current time. Ta-da! I think it would have been cool to have an avator with it, but whatever. Rare knows what they're doing, right?
What was extra-ordinary and spectacular in this game was the character's sprites (yes, sprites), the backgrounds, and the music! I think maybe only 1 stage was your normal, 2-D battle ground, but it was on a bridge. You can go nearly everywhere on the stages, and can kill people with its hazards. (For example, you can get TJ Combo run over by a train, knock Spinal into the ocean, kick Orchid off a twenty story building, that kind of stuff.) The music also besides being an excellent mix has some cool chanting. (Love Maya's song, baby!) You also get rap, classical (No kidding! Sabrewulf's stage sounds sorta Castlevanian like!), japanese meditation music, hard rock, that sort of stuff. And thankfully, no country! Yee-haw!!
The controls are probably the worst part, but it's not too bad after a while. You have to use your C buttons, A button, B button, and control stick to pull off moves, which aren't that hard if you practice them. Some of the combos are rather nice (like my Maya Dive Slash Dash combo), while some are kind of lame, (like any using Kim Wu. I could nap through her fighting). You can also pull DEATH MOVES!!! (Fulgore's involves using a laser to blow up characters while Spinal just drops a head on them.)
So, in conclusion, this game kicks some serious ass!! This is one of the best fighting games you can get due to all of the above and the fact that it's only T rated! (Apperantly, I can't play Mortal Kombat yet. *sigh*) You have got to get your mitts on this!
