Metroid
"Pray for a true peace in space!"
By: Zelda's Fox 38
This game kicked some serious ass in it's time! No one had yet invented a wonder like this; in fact, the closest to it was the Castlevania series. But, if you're like me, killing Dracula isn't on the top of your list-to-dos. So, go kill a brain that's trying to take over the galaxy!! Wee!! Fun!! Hey, wait a second . . . . . .Didn't I just kill a giant brain trying to take over the galaxy in my Arwing?
Get over it, hon. Brains like taking over galaxies.
So, anyway, you play as the most incredible heroine in the entire Nintendo universe: bounty hunter Samus Aran! Now, you're not supposed to know this, but Samus is a girl. Okay? A girl! So what? I like kicking booty too!!
Samus works at the Galatic Space Hunters Station, or something like that. Anyway, the Mother Brain wants to harvest these little green aliens called Metroids, which promise to be a high energy-power source if used properly. Of course, evil villians don't like that, so the Mother Brain takes them under her control with her henchmen Ridley and Kraid and threatens to destroy the galaxy. So, Samus being the expert, she goes in to kick some arse and chew bubblegum!
Okay, not the bubblegum part, but you get the idea.
One of the most notorious features about Metroid is that the characters' animations and music are pretty much flawless! The scenery is a little dark and dull, but it's not too noticable. The best part about Metroid is beating it to see what your ending is!
This game also has a password system, enabling players to start their games without saving them, and also get a boosted start if they haven't even begun their adventure! Plus you get the weirdest side-effects from it. . .Just try the code JUSTIN BAILEY ------ ------ . . .
All in all, this is an excellent example of Metroid at it's prime. (Get it? Metroid Prime? Oh, whatever.) I suggest you find a decent copy of it so you don't have to wrestle with yours to work like me . . . (But being the genius I am, I fixed it! Yah!)
Ratings:
Sound: 4/5-Sometimes I wonder if they used some of these for later games, such as Robocop. . .
Visual: 4/5-Little dark. But it wasn't anything to scoff at!
Music: 5/5-You will have these tunes eventually stuck in your head.
Time to play: 30 minutes (with the Justin Bailey code)-???
Scoring: 4.75/5- You let this go, I will personally come and get you!! This game rocks!!
